19 August 2015 Chicago Tribune "Why Chicago Gas Prices Are So High Right Now" I explain how Chicago uses a blend to meet the EPA CMAQ spec which is only produced at a few refineries &emdash; and why an outage at the biggest refinery (BP Whiting) constrains supply to the Chicago/Milwaukee area.
15 September 2013 Streetwise Professor "If You Have Lemons, Make Lemonade: Or, We'll Always Have Paris (if Not Pittsburgh)" A discussion of the Banque de France/ECB/Bank of England conference on OTC derivatives reform where I presented. Having Craig Pirrong say nice things about my research = super cool.

28 January 2013 First Business News "Treasury Turnover" Commentary on Timothy Geithner leaving the post of Treasury Secretary and what his legacy would be. Not aired: My opinion that Jack Lew is the wrong choice to succeed Geithner and that Mary Schapiro would be much better.
27 November 2012 First Business News "Schapiro Leaving SEC" Commentary on how the SEC has improved under Mary Schapiro. I also noted (not shown) her experience at the CFTC and pondered why she might leave: to consult for firms navigating Dodd-Frank changes, or (hinted at in the end) a cabinet position like Treasury — since Obama is shuffling cabinet posts. (N.B. The guy mentioning MF Global was wrong; that was a CFTC, not SEC matter.)

16 April 2012 KMOX AM (St Louis) "Ill. Retirement System Playing the Stock Market" Commentary on the risk and large returns generated by TRS. Bonus: Read the comments. Dave Urbanek, TRS's PR guy, losses his cool in the comments along with spewing a bunch of non-sequiturs. I invite him to call me — which nobody from TRS has ever done. If I'm so wrong and annoying that he needs to comment on a news story, I would think he'd try to convince me of their perspective. Maybe he knows I'm right?

7 September 2009 Barron's "Stocks Slip 1% as Financials Flounder." End mentions a comment letter I sent to the SEC suggesting they ban naked access (before we even had that term). The SEC subsequently solicited comments about naked access and banned it. I hope I was part of making that happen.
July? 2009 Bloomberg Radio "Taking Stock." More about the Russell Index Rebalance.
18 May 2009 Barron's "The Trouble With Transparency." About the Russell Index Rebalance, how gameable it is, and how that costs investors. Love the opener!
9 April 2009 CIC eNews "Optimizing Academic Opportunities." About the Committee for Institutional Cooperation and how it let me take classes at Northwestern that helped me finish my PhD. (This was a nice profile since I had gone on to work at a CIC member school. Then the Big Ten admitted Nebraska triggering the CIC to kick UIC out. Nebraska was then kicked out of the AAU within a few weeks. So the CIC became a weaker research consortium, got egg on its face for admitting a spurned research institution, and now this profile is more ironic than warm. Sad to see the sports tail wag the academic dog...)
